My name is Damien Clark, and I am an Educational Developer with the Educational Development Unit within the Office of Learning & Teaching at CQUniversity.
My professional journey commenced in the Information Technology industry working for a government agency after completing a bachelor degree in computer science at Central Queensland University. I had a variety of responsibilities including system administration, desktop support, and development and delivery of classroom training for staff in the use of desktop software.
I then accepted a position with CQ University within the Faculty of Informatics and Communication as a systems administrator. During my appointment as a system administrator, I was also a part-time lecturer for the faculty undergraduate course System Administration.
After working for CQ University for 2 years, I then applied for a tenured position as an academic and was appointed as an Associate Lecturer. I taught a variety of IT courses including System Administration, Network Security, Security and the Internet, Networks, and Data Communications. In the meantime, I completed a masters degree in computer science and was promoted to Lecturer. Part of my masters degree was the completion of a research dissertation. My dissertation was based around an extension to an industry specification for describing online computer quiz question banks. Refer to my publications page for full details of my research. It was at this point, that my interest in the marrying of technology and education developed.
After working as an academic within the faculty for 5 years, I accepted a position with OLT (formerly Division of Teaching & Learning Services – DTLS) as a curriculum designer with a special interest in E-Learning, based on my previous research activities.
Not the traditional beaten track for a curriculum designer to be sure, with no formal training or qualifications in the area; but rather a special interest in combination with my technologist background. So I have a great deal to learn at this point, and look forward to the challenge.
